The purpose of the committee is
to inform local residents of the water testing and radon air testing activities currently being undertaken by the NB Department of Health,
to promote participation in the testing activities,
to monitor results, and
to ensure that a public remedy is implemented that provides an adequate supply of clean drinking water as well as safe household air for the homes in the affected area.
If you would like to participate in the committee you can do so by attending our regular meetings every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church hall just south of Harvey Station on Route #3. You are just as welcome on a one-off basis as you are on a regular basis.
Sampling Program Details
The Dept. of Health has setup two tests: one for well water (measuring levels of uranium, arsenic and selenium only) and one for air (measuring for radon only) in your basement.
Who is Eligible for the tests?If you live in the Village of Harvey limits or live south of the Village off of Route 3 up to intersection Route 645 at York Mills, as well as on sideroads to Route 3, you are eligible to have your water and air tested under the program.
What do I need to do first?Call Dept. of Health at
453-2830 to register for the gas test. For the water test, simply go to the Village Office at the Harvey Rec. Centre (regular open hours Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 am - 12 noon) or call
366-6240. Special thanks to Mayor Gamblin, the Town Councillors and the Village Office for accomodating the testing activities of the Dept. of Health as a collection point.
Is there a deadline?YES, currently the deadline for submitting the water sample and for registering the gas test is
Aug. 31.Where do I pick-up/drop-off my water sample bottle and how-to instructions?You can pick-up your sample bottle and instructions from the Village Office at the Harvey Rec. Centre Mon./Wed./Fri. between 9:00 am till 12:00pm noon and on Thursdays between 8:30 am - 12 pm noon.

What if I can't pick-up/drop-off sample at regular times due to work hours?You can arrange a time with the Village Office to pick-up/drop-off the sample at W.W.E. Smith's Corner Store on Route #3. The drop-off still has to be arranged for a Monday or Thursday morning. Smith's Corner Store is open from 7 am - 10 pm, seven days / week.
When does the Radon testing take place?The Radon Testing will occur over the winter months for a 3 month period. A filter will be installed in your basement to take the sample.
